NCSSM Completes Return to Athletics with Strong Fall Season, 22 Named All Conference

Durham, N.C. - The NCSSM Athletic fall teams didn't miss a step after not having varsity sports last year.  They finished the fall strong with a State Championship, two Regional Championships, one Regional Runner Up and four Conference Championships.  NCSSM had 22 all-conference members and four coach of the year awards. Overall, they now lead the Super Six Athletic Conference Wells Fargo Cup Standings.
 
Men's and Women's Cross Country
The NCSSM Cross Country team finished the season with the Women's team winning the 2A NCHSAA State Championship and the Men's team finishing fourth.  This is the first state championship for the women's cross country team.  The Men's and Women's teams also won the MidEast regional championships while Andrew Parker and Caitlyn Elliott took the individual regional championships. The Unicorns also dominated the Super Six Conference taking both the Men's and Women's Championships. The following were named Super Six All Conference: Ella Evans, Caitlyn Elliott, Valen Chapel, Lily Snow, Meara Kane, Sophie van de Klashorst, Andrew Parker, JoJo Morgan, Noah Siekierski, Colin Tran and Caleb Jordan. In addition, Evans was named Women's Cross Country Runner of the Year and Parker was the Men's Cross Country Runner of the Year with their first place finishes. Head Coach Charlie Payne took both the Men's and Women's Super Six Conference Cross Country Coach of the Year awards.

 
Men's Soccer
The NCSSM Men's Soccer team finished a perfect conference schedule on the way to taking the Super Six Conference Championship.  Their season ended with a 15-2-1 record  and a 3rd Round game in the 2A NCHSAA Playoffs.  All Super Six Conference Members were Samuel McNamara, Liam Bridges, Robert Czyzewski, Kenneth Frisard and Jack Hyland.  McNamara was also named the Super Six Conference Offensive Player of the Year.  Coach Henry Gallagher was voted the Super Six Conference Men’s Soccer Coach of the Year.
 
Volleyball
The NCSSM Volleyball team took both the Conference Regular Season and Tournament Championships with a 9-1 conference record.  Overall the Unicorns finished the season with a 19-3 record and reached the 3rd Round of the 2A NCHSAA playoffs.  Sarah Harrison was named Super Six Conference Player of the Year with two additional All Conference selections of Whitney Drummond and Mihika Gottimukkala. Head Coach Davene Mainwaring was named Super Six Conference Volleyball Coach of the Year.
 
Women's Golf
The Women's Golf team had a strong season finishing second in the Super Six Conference and gaining a Runner Up Regional Title.  They then went to finish 7th Place in the 1A/2A NCHSAA State Championship in Pinehurst.  Sarah Kenny and Lily Smith were named to the Super Six All Conference team.
 
Women's Tennis
The NCSSM Women's Tennis Team played a strong conference schedule with a 4th Place finish in the Super Six Athletic Conference.  Alina Yang was named to the Super Six All Conference Team.
