UNIS Go 2-0 in Wrestling Home Opener

The UNIs had their long awaited first home match of the season on Wednesday and there was a great student and fan base out to support the team.  First up was new conference rival Bartlett Yancey.  The dual started with an exiting match at 120 that remained close start to finish.  In the end Ryan Greenlatt was able to secure the win for NCSSM 4-3.  Our middle weights shined in the match with Hunter Wood at 126, Ben Nichols at 138, Davis Upchurch at 160 all securing pins.  Not to be out done Javier Villalpando also came up with a nice pin at 220 to lock up the win for the UNIS.

Final Score NCSSM 63 Bartlett Yancey 12

In the second dual of the night the UNIS welcomed fellow Durham school Voyager Academy.  This match was back and forth in the early going.  The voyager middle weights came to battle.  With the help of some key pins by Ben Nichols and Elias Arroyo NCSSM was able to start to distance themselves from Voyager.  The lead was too much to overcome after the fall from Elias and with 12 more points from Chloe Pickell and Ryan Greenblatt the Unis were able to secure their 6th dual victory of the season against a single loss.

Final score NCSSM 54 Voyager 17

Please keep your thoughts with Grayson Herrera.  He unfortunately suffered a season ending knee injury in his match at 170 pounds.  We are all wishing him a speeding and successful recovery and are looking forward to having him out on the mat for his senior season.

Next action is an individual tourney at Corinth Holders this Saturday beginning at 9:30 AM.  We plan to carry 8-10 wrestlers to this event with 23 teams from across all 4 school divisions.  It should be a great day of wrestling.  Will do our best to bring back some hardware!!!  GO UNIS!!!
