Tri-Match at Eastern Alamance

The UNIS opened their wrestling season with an away Tri match at host 3A Eastern Alamance last night along with Williams high school. In the opener the team got off to a slow start falling to 27-3 midway through the match but were able to run off a string of pins with Davis Upchurch securing the final fall we needed wrestling up at 170 pounds to bring us to 40 match points and ensure the team victory.

In our second match against host Eastern Alamance it was a very back and forth contest with the lead changing 5 times over the course of the match. With some luck on the coin toss Eastern was able to secure some extra points at the 126 weight class that in the end proved to be the difference. Eastern led 39-33 going into the final bout. Greyson Herrera battled to a hard fought 7-2 victory in the match but we came up just a little short.

Going undefeated on the night were Ryan Greenblatt (2 pins), Davis Upchurch (2 pins), Ben Nichols (14-0, 9-3), Hunter Wood (pin and forfeit), and Jon Buck (1 pin)
