UNIS Wrestling moves to 2-0 in Conference with win at DSA

The UNIS travelled to Durham School of the Arts Wednesday for a dual with our cross town rivals.  Both squads had a few holes in the line-ups on the night but all the contested matches were exciting to watch.  After forfeits for Ryan Greenblatt (113) Hunter Wood (120) and Ben Hawley (126) Ben Nichols stated off the action at 132.  Ben had a dominating performance in his 7-2 victory coming close to pinning his opponent several times in the second period but the resilient DSA wrestler was able to fend it off. Another forfeit came for Isaiah Fleming at 138 followed by an impressive Pin for Ayden Hochstein. Gustavo Macias received a forfeit at 152 to bring the score to 39 - 0 Unis followed by 2 NCSSM forfeits at 160 and 170 which allowed DSA to close the gap.  Jason Blaisdell put on an impressive performance wrestling up a weigh class at 182 secure a nice takedown and then methodically working to put his opponent in a pinning position with about 45 seconds remaining in the period.  DSA fought the good fight but with persistence Jason was able to get the pin in the late seconds of the period.  The final matchup of the night was for Lucas Ford at 220 who was facing an as yet undefeated wrestler on the season from DSA.  The first 90 seconds were back and forth with many attempts to score from both wresters with Lucas finally winning out to get the first takedown.  As he went to lock a pinning move his grip slipped and the DSA wrestler was able to take advantage and turn the tables for a reversal quickly catching Lucas with his back to the mat.  Lucas responded well but the more experience DSA wrestler countered his attempts to get his shoulders away from the mat and the official called the pin with about 10 seconds remaining in the period.

Again a great team effort for the UNIS with the 45-24 victory.  The wrestlers will be back in action Wednesday the 14th for 2 matches at Cedar Ridge and then they host Franklinton and SE Raleigh on Thursday the 15th before the start of break.  Come out and cheer on the UNIs!!!
