2018-19 NCSSM Award Winners Announced
Durham, N.C. - The NCSSM Athletic Department celebrated one of its most impressive seasons in school history. NCSSM won nine Mid-State 2A Conference Championships to capture its fifth Wells Fargo Conference Cup. To go along with NCSSM’s nine conference championships, NCSSM had 99 all-conference team selections, six conference coaches of the year and a state championship in Men's Swimming during the 2018-19 season.
NCSSM also finished extremely high in the state in team GPA across the state regardless of classification. The Unicorns took top honors in Men’s Basketball, were second in Men’s Golf, Men’s Outdoor and Indoor Track and Baseball was third in the state.
The NCSSM Athletic Director's Top Athlete Awards winners were announced with Laila Barnes and William Leary taking the honors. Both athletes were a conference player of the year in their sport. Barnes was a multi-sport athlete, earning all conference in Women’s Basketball both years and was Mid-State Conference Player of the Year. She was also all conference in track and field. Leary was also a multi-sport athlete playing on the basketball and baseball teams. In baseball, he was named Mid-State Conference Pitcher of the year this season.
