NCSSM Athletics Updates - 2/11/13

Durham, N.C. - The week ending on February 9th proved to be a record breaking one as the men's swimming team cruised to the state championship. Wrestling is also poised to host the first and second rounds of the state championships. Read below for more detail:

- Swimming and Diving - The men's swimming team took the 1A/2A State Championship and the 1A/2A East Regional Championship while the Women finished fourth in the region. Jacob Vosburgh won the 200-yard freestyle and then the 500-free in meet record time. He also swam on the winning 200-free relay team with Jack Wilson, Matt Weaver and Daniel Birmingham, which also set a meet record, and on the second-place 400-free relay team with Weaver, Allen and Gabe Shepherd. - Wrestling took a victory in the 1A Duals to advance as a number one seed in the State Playoffs. NCSSM hosted the first round of the state playoffs on Tuesday February 12 at 5:30 p.m. as they face Ayden Grifton and also host N. Rowan and Dixon.

- The indoor track team completed their season at the NCHSAA 1A/2A/3A Indoor State Championship at JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem. Ashleigh Cleveland finished tied for ninth in the high jump and the men's 4x800 meter relay team finished in 11th place.

- The spring season gets underway on February 28 as two teams face Franklinton High School. Women's soccer hosts at 6pm while baseball hits the road.
